It is with great pleasure that we announce the winning candidates to host the upcoming continental championships in 2020:
WCA Asian Championship 2020 will be held on August 27-30, 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
WCA European Championship 2020 will be held on July 16-19, 2020 in Almere, Netherlands.
WCA North American Championship 2020 will be held on June 25-28, 2020 in Toronto, Canada.
All dates and locations are tentative until the competitions are announced on the WCA website.

The decision for WCA Oceanian Championship 2020 has been deferred.

There were no applications for continental championships in Africa or South America and thus no continental championships will be held in these continents in 2020.

The public versions of the applications are available here. The public version of the Oceanian Championship application will be published after a decision is made.

Additionally, we would like to announce a few changes to the calendar and requirements of future championship applications.

As a result of feedback, the WCA Board agreed to announce further in advance the calendar for upcoming championship applications, as seen below:

*Announce at the previous competition if one exists
Note that the goal will be to announce future championships two years in advance instead of one year to allow for further planning time for organization teams, so future applications will be due earlier than expected.

Additionally, it is our aim to require Continental and World Championship applications for 2023 and beyond to be submitted with the support of a WCA Regional Organization. As the budgets of WCA continental and world championships have grown to regularly exceed $100,000, it has become essential to ensure financial accountability through an established corporate entity and require a simple agreement between the WCA and the organization team to outline each organization’s responsibilities with regard to the event. We are announcing this requirement now so that all potential organization teams for these competitions have sufficient time to register a Regional Organization if they do not already have one.
